How do you get your congregation up to speed on the latest technology - Twitter, Facebook, etc?

Teach them.

Here’s a class being offered at Life Changers International, a church in Chicagoland.

Introduction to Social Media: Twitter Power

This class is designed to teach you ‘everything Twitter!’  You will learn how to set up an account, develope a bio and how to follow and get followers. You will also learn all the Twitter lingo (Tweet, RT, @user,DM, @reply, ect.) along with Twitter etiquette.  We will even help you set up Twitter on your iPhone, Blackberry or Smartphone.

What if you reached outside of your walls and offered free social media classes to the community?

This is a RELEVANT itch you can scratch. Stats tell us all ages are diving into Facebook and Twitter at record numbers. Why not serve the community by getting them up-to-speed on social media?

How cool would it be if folks gave props to your church for teaching them how to use Facebook or Twitter?

Who will teach it?

I know what you’re thinking, “I don’t have time to teach something like that.”

Those “aggressive” volunteers who always email you about stuff you “should” be doing on the website, need to be teaching the class.

What a great way to capitalize on that energy. They’re dying for something to take ownership of, and this is the perfect fit.

You can still come up with the outline, or even teach it if you want, but this is a great volunteer serving role.

So what?

Churches are already “getting it” and using social media for Kingdom impact. Now it’s time to teach our congregation and community how to use it.
