Friday Four: Favorite iPhone Apps

I remember lining up for my 1st-generation iPhone like it was yesterday.

I arrived at my local AT&T store at 5:00 AM thinking I would be one of the first in line; to my surprise, I was number 18 in line, and many of the folks in front of me were surprisingly clean-shaven and well put together folks (all of my previous launch day experiences revolve around video game consoles, which net an entirely different crowd…). As the day progressed, I spent most of the time sitting in the back of my Explorer talking with a large older gentleman that spoke only German and broken English. It was a bizarre day to say the least.

But it was worth it to be one of the first to get such a truly transformative piece technology. I won’t devote this post to being yet another write up gushing about the iPhone (I’m assuming you’ve read enough of those today), but I will share some of my favorite Apps that have made my ministry-related work quite a bit easier.

Tweetie - Get it now ($2.99)

tweetieFar and away the best Twitter app in the App Store, Tweetie is absolutely a must buy if you’re an avid tweeter. It’s especially helpful in it’s handling of multiple Twitter accounts; I can switch back and forth between my personal account and my work accounts without skipping a beat. Plus, the interface is so nice and well thought out that I actually prefer using my iPhone to tweet than using my laptop. That’s saying something.

Google Mobile App - Get it Now

googleThis app is chock full of Google-related goodness, but you need to download it for one simple reason: Their voice search is teh aWeSoMe! It does a killer job understanding what you’re searching for, and has saved me countless typing-related car wrecks.

Analytics App - Get it Now ($5.99)

analyticsIf you manage a website or blog, you’re probably just as anal as I am about checking your stats every day. This app has come in handy a few times when a post on MediaSalt has gained some steam; I can see up-to-the-minute information about who’s hitting our site and where people are finding us. It’s a great app to have on the go if you’re a geek.

CardStar - Get it Now

cardstarI’m in charge of our Fellowship One implementation at Long Hollow, so I’m always dealing with bar codes (for our check-in kiosks). CardStar saves the day by eliminating the need to carry around hundreds of little plastic tags on my key chain. Simply bring up the bar code on the screen and the scanner will pick it up with no problem. It also works great for grocery cards, gas cards, etc.

So those are some of my favorite apps. Share your Top 4 in the comments below!

Good list, I’ll have to check out that CardStar deal.

    1) TweetDeck (I like twitter, but not as much as I like free apps)
    2) Tough Topics by YS (great for jump-starting conversations on roadtrips/downtime)
    3) Rowmote (fire up all manner of programs and enjoy without touching the keyboard)
4)Pandora (eclectic music mixes even when I’m on the go, excellent)
