Sometimes it’s the small things in my geeky life that make my day; this is especially true of things that make my working life even easier. I was elated to log on to Facebook last week, only to be greeted with a short note letting me know that they now have a form of official integration with Twitter. I thought this sounded like a cool feature, but quickly forgot about it as the rest of the rest of the week wore on.
This discovery came rushing back to me this weekend after a small epiphany… “That means I can update our Facebook page and not have to duplicate the work for our Twitter feed!” If you’ve read our blog for any period of time, you know that we’re huge fans of Facebook Fan Pages for ministries, and I’ve even cautiously proposed making that your official church website (if you’re on a budget).
After testing it out (works great!), let me say that the addition of this sort of functionality only increases my love for Facebook Fan Pages; it’s now easier than ever to maintain a strong social presence with a minimum amount of upkeep, and you’re missing out if you’re not taking advantage of this. You can get started now on facebook.com/twitter.

I linked the Facebook Status of my church’s fan page and its Twitter account recently as well. I just need to remember to update from Facebook, not Twitter, for it to be effective.
I’ve also been trying to get our podcast listenership up and so I have set up the Facebook app, RSS Graffiti, to pull in our podcast feed from Feedburner, then update the Facebook status with a link to the new episode and, hopefully, sending it out to twitter as well. If all worked, it would be wicked handy for people to know as soon as the new episode is available AND allow people to share the episode via Facebook and Twitter.
I’m still waiting for this last weekend’s episode to be uploaded, so I don’t know if it will work. But I’m hoping for the best.
So the episode was uploaded. However, RSS Graffiti posted the link to the episode on the page Wall, not the status. Therefore it did not go out to twitter, either.
However, I contacted the developers of the app and they said that they are aware of the issue and it will be taken care of very soon.
Eric,
Thanks for posting the update. I hope they resolve the issue soon because this is a great value add for churches.
Keep us posted.
