The conference portion of MinistryCOM is wrapping up today, and Cleve and I have been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time meeting folks that are serving in the trenches all across the country (and continent!). After dozens of great conversations, we’ve seen a few common threads that seem to be universal, no matter your address or position. Here are a few of them…
You can learn something from everybody. One of the best parts of interacting with so many likeminded folks at a conference is the great pieces of information you can obtain from just about everybody. Think of it as a creative “hive mind” where none of you is as geeky as all of you put together. It’s awesome.
Creatives are just more fun. Cleve and I had dinner with some great folks last night, and I have to say that my face hasn’t hurt this much from laughing since I spent two hours on Fail Blog last week. Good times.
Nobody really likes their CMS. Church management systems are getting a little better every year, but it seems like nobody has really nailed the balance of functionality and ease-of-use. No matter the software you use, it seems to become universally despised. There’s a huge hole in the market for somebody to fix this.
Keynote is the best thing since sliced bread. Many initial conversations with fellow presenters begin with a meaty discussion about the sheer awesomeness of Apple’s Keynote software. If you’re still using PowerPoint, you’re missing out.
Look for more thoughts from MinistryCOM next week. Did you make it to one of our breakouts this year? You can grab PDF downloads of our slides here for a limited time.
Thanks for a great session guys - it was great to meet and chat with you!
You guys did a fantastic job on your breakout – I learned SO much! I’ll be starting at a new church this week and will be pushing to venture into the realm of social media. The potential is incredible!
BTW, Cleve whereabouts in NC are you from? We live in the High Point area between Greensboro and Winston.
Whitney, thanks for the props. We had a great time. Let us know if we can assist in your “venture.”
I am from Belmont, NC. Right next door to Charlotte. I’m pretty sure NC is the promiseland.
Thanks Colin. Great meeting you too. Let’s connect soon.
It was awesome to meet you guys at MinistryCOM! I enjoyed hanging out.
