As Christians and church leaders we need to purposefully find ways to fight spiritual drift.
How do you stoke the fire?
Arthur Mace, a long-time friend and pastor of New River Community Church — a church plant I served for several years, has a great blog post about fighting spiritual drift.
“Drift happens. I’m like everybody else, I’m not some super person that never struggles with drift. If I don’t re-focus myself every now and then I have a tendency to want to drift spiritually.”
Arthur lists eight practical things he does to stay focused on whose he is. Here are several I need to work on.
- “See God working in another part of the world. God is so much bigger than what we see.”
- “Visit an impoverished place at least once a year. Some moms choose what to feed their children. Some moms choose which children to feed. Going to a place that breaks my heart increases my passion.”
- “Devoted time to prayer. Not just a few minutes here and there but extended time devoted to prayer. How can I know Him more if I don’t spend more time with Him?”
- “Visit a cemetery“. Seeing today in light of eternity always changes me.”

*Yes that’s me in the photo, on a man trip two years ago with @ericmurrell and @linne, squirting lighter fluid on our campfire.

It‘s quiet in here! Why not leave a response?
