It’s been three months since I announced a God-given vision of organizing a mission trip for creatives. After being overwhelmed by comments and emails from folks and creative teams who are interested in participating, I had an “Oh wow, I guess we actually need to do this” moment.
So, it’s time for some updates.
If you’re not familiar with the Creative Missions idea, the original post will catch you up to speed.
The Location
The target area for the first creative mission trip is an association of churches in upstate New York - Reaching from Albany to Pittsfield, MA. There’s a wide variety of churches found from inner city to suburban, to rural. In addition, there’s a good number of church plants to established churches. Click on the thumbnail to expand.
I’ve spoken to the director of the association and he is ecstatic about this idea. In fact, he mentioned that just a couple of weeks ago he was telling someone “wouldn’t it be cool if.” Praise God for affirmations.
Partners
We are very thankful to those who have been gracious to extend support and resources. If your organization is interested in being a partner, please email hello@mediasalt.com.
- CreativeMYK: The good folks over at CreativeMYK.com have offered to help partner in many areas including free advertising and gathering sponsorship to bring in top-notch speakers for the evening sessions — We’re thinking about making this missions during the day and conference at night.
- Center for Church Communication: CFCC is a “resource for church communicators. Churches have the greatest story ever told, but struggle to tell it well. [They] want to help churches tell it better.” What a perfect fit for Creative Missions.
Leadership Core [AKA The Brain Trust]
This vision is too big for one person. It requires a group of folks to help whiteboard, steer, and advise. I’m excited and honored to announce the leadership core of creative missions. I have spoken to each one of these folks and they all have a heart for this vision and are full of God-inspired ideas.

- October 2010: Leadership Core (those who can make it) vision trip to NY. Face time with the association, churches, and logging needs.
- November 2010: All details finalized and open registration.

Hi Cleve. All of us on the team at the Center for Church Communication are excited to partner with you as you move the idea of “Creative Missions” from dream to reality. We look forward to each step of your journey and to the invaluable service/support your team will be to those who get to have you visit them. We’re looking forward to the future of “Creative Missions”.
Still totally love this idea. Looking forward to hearing more!
Thrilled to be a part of this!
Cleve,
This sounds like a great idea and I will be praying for the team. Let me know if you are looking for churches in the Upper NY area. A friend of mine is the Marking/Communications “coordinator/guru” for the Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church.
We have already been chatting about how to bring communications excellence to the local churches there and I am working with her on how to help them with strategic marketing planning and social media. It could be a good fit so give me a shout and I can set up a quick chat if you need some additional churches to support.
Let me throw one more idea at you. Does the “community of practice” need to start pulling together unConferences, Podcamps, etc. to start educating the church community? We are a fairly dispersed group of practitioners and I think we could do a lot to bring excellence across a broader spectrum of churches.
