So often we get caught up in being busy, and we forget some basic relationship tools. Sure we see their updates on Facebook, but is that maintaining a healthy relationship?
Here are 4 things you should be doing every week with friends, family, your boss, volunteers, your congregation, and anyone you want to maintain contact with.
- Connect outside of Facebook or Twitter. Call, say hi, and stop by their office. No agenda, just catch up, and listen.
- Thank yous. When was the last time you mailed a thank you card? It will go a long way. Thank your boss, staff, volunteers, and ministry partners. A simple thank you note shows your care. Hand write it too.
- Follow up. Did you connect, and ask how someones day is going? When was the last time you followed up? ‘Hey how is your uncle doing?’, or maybe ‘That presentation you did last month went great. Good job’. This is a great doorway to repeat step 1.
- Put the phone down. Really. Nothing worse than working on the above three, and still checking Twitter, Facebook, or emails on your sweet new iPhone 4. Shut it off, and give your relationship the full attention it deserves.
I struggle sometimes, but I’ve discovered spending time on these 4 things has great rewards. Try doing this for 2 weeks and see how it goes. I bet you’ll find it’s a good balance in your life.

It‘s quiet in here! Why not leave a response?
